Man charged with shooting police officer’s dog

A South Carolina man has been charged with attempted murder after he shot and killed a police dog, according to a statement from the South Carolina State Police.

According to the statement, Matthew Michael Williams, 29, was arrested Sunday evening after police responded to a call of shots fired at a home in the 1100 block of N. W. Broad Street in Columbia, South Carolina.

The police report says Williams was holding a .22 caliber handgun when he went into the home.

Williams was charged with one count of attempted murder, one count felony aggravated assault and one count misdemeanor reckless endangerment.

Williams is being held at the Columbia County Jail on $50,000 bond.
